The PGA Tour has placed an increased emphasis on some of its highest-profile events in 2022-23, giving them designated status and elevating purses to $20 million in an effort to assure the attendance of the best players in the world. And the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. on will be the next designated event during the 2022-23 PGA Tour season as play begins Thursday morning. Quail Hollow is an iconic club that has hosted nearly 30 PGA Tour events, as well as the 2017 PGA Championship and the 2022 Presidents Cup.

Justin Thomas won the only major championship ever held at the iconic club, and he'll be making his return as an individual competitor for the first time since that breakthrough victory. Thomas is listed at 21-1 in the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while three-time Wells Fargo Championship winner Rory McIlroy is the 15-2 favorite. Before locking in your 2023 Wells Fargo Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $8,600 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner.

In addition, the model included Nick Hardy and Davis Riley in its best bets to win the 2023 Zurich Classic. That bet hit at +4500, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned over $1,100. McClure's best bets also included J.T. Poston winning outright at the 2022 John Deere Classic, even though he was listed as a massive 55-1 longshot.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship field is locked, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 Wells Fargo Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Wells Fargo Championship 2023: Jordan Spieth, a 13-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and doesn't even crack the top 10. Spieth has finished T-4 or better in three of his last four starts on the PGA Tour, which includes a runner-up finish at the RBC Heritage.

However, Spieth has struggled mightily with his driver this season, ranking 107th in total driving (212) and 149th in driving accuracy (55.81%). He also hasn't played in the Wells Fargo Championship since 2013, where he recorded a T-32 finish. He's not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Wells Fargo Championship 2023 field.

Another surprise: Max Homa, a 24-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Homa has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The No. 7 player in the Official World Golf Ranking is the defending Wells Fargo Championship winner (at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm) and he also won the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club for his first PGA Tour win.

Homa also went a perfect 4-0 at the 2022 Presidents Cup here, so this is a course that he knows well and an event that means a lot to him. The six-time PGA Tour winner is currently third in the FedEx Cup standings and he ranks fifth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: total (1.932). He gains strokes against the field in all four major strokes-gained categories and that well-rounded game is a big reason why he'll be a factor at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship. See who else to pick here
