The Dodgers beat the Cardinals 5-0 on Friday but lost Thursday 16-8 and Saturday 6-5. In the Sunday finale Los Angeles gave up 12 hits in a 10-5 defeat. Starter Clayton Kershaw lasted 3.2 innings with four earned on five hits and three walks.
For the starter job in the Monday matchup the Dodgers will go with Gavin Stone. In his lone start this year (the first of his career) Stone put up 4.0 innings with four earned on eight hits and two walks with one K.
Atlanta Braves
Over on the Braves’ side, they beat the Mariners Friday 6-2 then took a 7-3 loss in game two. In the Sunday rubber match Atlanta powered out a 3-2 win on seven team hits. Starter Jared Shuster put up 6.0 innings with one earned on one hit and a walk.
Charlie Morton will make the start for the Braves on Monday. In his eight starts so far Morton is 5-3 with a 2.85 ERA and 49 Ks in 47.1 innings. Morton is 121-104 with a 4.00 ERA in 331 career games (330 starts).
The Dodgers are 4-1 in the last five versus the NL East and 60-24 in their last 84 in game one of a series. LA is 96-44 in their last 140 overall.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 6-1 in their last seven Monday games and 54-23 in their last 77 at home. Atlanta is 38-13 in their last 51 in game one of a series.

I’ll take a crack on the Braves in this one. Morton has been pretty darn good over his last two starts. In that pair he’s got just two earned on 12 hits and three walks in 12.2 combined innings, winning both. Morton should be able to put the Braves in a good spot by the time he exits. On Sunday Atlanta got at least one hit from six different players and the bullpen had a pretty good overall outing. I like the Braves to keep the momentum going in this opener and bag a victory.
