It’s mainly about the Three Lions

England have made a habit of comfortably winning qualifying matches under Gareth Southgate and that should be no different this evening.

North Macedonia, who are 60 places below the Three Lions in the Fifa rankings, lost 3-2 at home to Ukraine on Friday night, throwing away a two-goal lead and then having centre back Vislar Musliu sent off.

Southgate’s men, 4-0 victors in Malta on the same day, have now won 10 of their previous 16 qualifiers by at least three goals.

They also beat Iran 6-2, Wales 3-0 and Senegal 3-0 in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, so should have more than enough for another emphatic success over the North Macedonians.

England vs North Macedonia tip 1: England to win by three or more goals @ 10/11 with Sky Bet

Rashford back on home soil

There will be few players more enthusiastic about the first England men’s game at Old Trafford since 2007 – a 1-0 defeat in a friendly against Spain – than Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester United forward came off the bench in the win against Malta but, as Bukayo Saka was injured in that game the Red Devils star is likely to start against North Macedonia.

Rashford had an impressive season for United, scoring 30 goals in 56 games, with 20 of those at home. That also included a club record-equalling run of goals in nine consecutive matches at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old clearly relishes playing on familiar territory, and is a good selection to get on the scoresheet against a North Macedonia side who conceded three against Ukraine.

Alioski to go all in

Thirty-one-year-old wide utility player Ezgjan Alioski, who was shown three yellow cards for Turkish club Fenerbahçe this season while on loan from Saudi side Al Ahli, is likely to start at left back against England.

During his time in the Premier League for Leeds United, he showed some defensive vulnerability and was cautioned seven times in 36 games.

For North Macedonia, Alioski has been shown two yellow cards in his previous five appearances, and he is likely to struggle again when facing the quality of England’s attack.

Rashford will probably be his direct opponent so the former Elland Road man is a good selection for a caution at Old Trafford.

England vs North Macedonia tip 3: Ezgjan Alioski to be carded @ 11/4 with Sky Bet
