Cincinnati Reds

The Reds managed to power out a 9-6 win over the Diamondbacks in the Friday game, then followed that up with a 4-2 win Saturday. Cincinnati’s Spencer Steer and TJ Friedl each notched two hits in game two. In the finale the Reds had another great offensive effort with 13 team hits in a 7-3 win. Christian Encarnacion-Strand finished with two hits and two RBI. Nick Senzel also had a homer with two RBI.

For the starter job Monday the Reds will send out Graham Ashcraft. Over his 18 starts this season Ashcraft is 5-7 with a 5.77 ERA and 66 Ks in 93.2 innings. Ashcraft posted a win over the Giants in his last start with 6.0 innings and two earned runs.

Milwaukee Brewers

Over on the Milwaukee side, they lost to the Braves 6-4 Friday but came back for a 4-3 win in game two. The victory was thanks in large part to Sal Frelick, who had three hits, two RBI and a run. On Sunday the Brewers had a lead going into the eighth but coughed it up in a 4-2 defeat. Christian Yelich posted two hits, and Brice Turang added a solo homer in the loss.

In the starter slot for Milwaukee Monday, it’ll be Colin Rea. Over his 17 games (16 starts) so far Rea is 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA and 70 Ks in 85.1 innings. Rea posted a no-decision versus the Phillies his last time up with two earned in 5.0 innings on five hits and no walks.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Reds. Ashcraft is 2-1 in his last three games and pitching well. In that trio Ashcraft has four combined earned runs on 17 hits and seven walks in 18.0 innings. He’s gone 6.0 innings in each of those outings and should be able to work deep into the game here. On Sunday Cincinnati kept the offensive train rolling. That makes three or more runs in six straight games, and 25 runs scored in the last four. I like the Reds to keep it rolling.
