San Francisco Giants Moneyline (+116)
Entering play on Sunday, the San Francisco Giants have lost two games in a row and seven of their last nine overall. Nevertheless, they are not a bad baseball team. In those nine games, the Giants have played the Atlanta Braves five times, the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies three times, and the Tampa Bay Rays for the other game. Tonight, the Giants get an opportunity to avoid a weekend sweep against one of Atlanta’s less talented starting pitchers. At plus-money, this is worth a roll of the dice.
Under 15.5 (-1000)
At first pitch tonight, the temperature is forecasted to be below 70 degrees at Oracle Park. Though the Atlanta Braves have been the league’s best offense for the entirety of the campaign, it is unlikely that they will be able to do enough damage to push the combined total in this game anywhere near 16 runs. Matt Olson 2+ Total Bases (-105)
The San Francisco Giants are opening with Tristan Beck tonight, who owns a dreadful 5.45 FIP and a 1.32 WHIP against left-handed batters in 2023. Beck has only struck out 15.8% of the batters he has seen across the platoon, meaning that there is a very good chance that Olson puts a ball in play during his first plate appearance. Even if Olson doesn’t get the job done in the first inning, he will have at least three more opportunities. He has a 120 wRC+ against left-handed pitching and a 166 wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season, so he will not be put in an overly disadvantageous situation no matter who comes into the game after Beck.
Jared Shuster 3+ Strikeouts (-290)
Jared Shuster has made nine starts this year and has only collected three or more strikeouts four times. However, all matchups are not created equal. This evening, Shuster gets to face a San Francisco Giants lineup that ranks 29th in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching during the month of August. According to props.cash, six of the last eight southpaws to face the Giants have recorded at least three punchouts – this is a worthwhile inclusion in today’s longshot parlay.
