New York Yankees vs New York Mets Prediction 7-25-23 MLB Picks

The New York Mets and the New York Yankees meet Tuesday in MLB action from Yankee Stadium. The Mets are fresh off a weekend series versus the Red Sox, losing two of the first three games in this minor road trip. As for the Yankees, they played the Royals over the weekend and finally built up some momentum with a three-game sweep. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York Mets

The Mets managed to eke out a win over the Red Sox Friday 5-4, but lost the weekend games 8-6 and 6-1. Brandon Nimmo was the only New York player with multiple hits (two) in the finale, and Francisco Lindor bagged the only RBI in a pretty flat offensive effort. The good news is that the bullpen didn’t allow a run.

For the starter job in the Tuesday game the Mets will send out Justin Verlander. In his 14 starts this year Verlander is 4-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 70 Ks in 83.0 innings. Verlander posted a win in his last start, going 8.0 innings with just one earned versus the White Sox.

New York Yankees

Over on the Yankees’ side, they bagged wins over the Royals 5-4, 5-2 and 8-5 in the weekend series for a much-needed sweep. Sunday’s win saw Anthony Rizzo go 4-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and three runs. Gleyber Torres bagged a two-run home run, and Giancarlo Stanton put up two hits with a run.

Domingo German will take the mound for the Yankees on Tuesday. Across his 18 starts this season German is 5-6 with a 4.52 ERA and 101 Ks in 97.2 innings. German gave up five earned in 6.0 innings during a road loss to the Angels back on July 18.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll try the Mets here. You could make a case either way, though. Verlander has been pitching well over his last trio, going 1-1 with six earned runs in 19.0 combined innings on 10 hits and 10 walks. German should be able to bounce back after his loss to the Angels last time up (6.0 innings; five earned). The key for the Mets here is going to be the bullpen, though. The Mets have given up four or more earned runs in five of their last six games, going 3-3 during that time. Provided they can tamp down the Yankees offense after Verlander exits, I think the Mets will be in line for a win.
