New Zealand Derby (NZ) Tips for Trifecta

  • Just as Sharp
  • Interlinked

New Zealand Derby (NZ) Tips for First-Four

New Zealand Derby (NZ) Form Guide & Tips

1. Just as Sharp ($12)

He’s a tough customer and we’re not leaving him out of calculations at the odds.

We expect money to come for him late in the betting.

2. Ascend the Throne (Best Each Way – $10)

He got too far back last time out before rattling home for fourth.

He looks like a Derby type, and being from the Te Akau stable only helps his cause, especially at the double-figure odds.

Having Opie Bosson in the saddle is another bonus.

3. Interlinked ($7.50)

Interlinked is an Australian-based runner who ran third at Ellerslie last time out.

That came behind Orchestral, but he needs to find 5.3 lengths on that run to turn around the result. However, he’s still worth including.

4. Solidify ($31)

He got back to winning form last week at Otaki, which was good to see.

Unlikely to run well enough at this level.

5. Renegade Rebel ($41)

Showed good form when winning consecutive races earlier this preparation.

He didn’t fire last time out, so he’s likely to struggle again.

6. Mosinvader ($18)

Fifth behind Orchestral last time out. We don’t think he’s good enough to win, but he’s good enough to run in the money.

Could be a shortener on race day.

7. Antrim Coast ($81)

Disappointing form following his fresh up win. He’s not going well enough to beat this hot Derby field.

8. Sinhaman ($81)

His last two runs have been poor, and he’s not running well enough to win the New Zealand Derby.

9. What You Wish For ($41)

He was showing consistent form before failing to fire last time out, which is of concern.

We would prefer to back him in something much easier.

10. High Country (Best Roughie – $31)

Still having his first preparation but he keeps running well, and the breeding is there.

He’s a gelding by Mongolian Khan x Chaparella, so he’s bred to stay, and this race should be right up his alley.

11. Monday Melody ($81)

Not the most consistent type going around, which is not ideal for punters.

12. City Gold Ready ($81)

Not running well enough and he doesn’t seem to handle Ellerslie.

13. Perfectmanz ($81)

Disappointing form since exiting maiden grades. Would need to find around eight lengths to win.

14. First Innings ($31)

Broke maidens at Pukekohe last start but jumping from maidens to Group 1 is a major step up.

15. Tranzed ($81)

Mixed form this preparation, so he would need to improve a lot to win.

16. Anaroa ($81)

Another runner not going well enough to be competitive.

17. Orchestral (Best Bet – $1.50)

The short-priced favourite after dominating the lead-up races.

She is a special filly, and she’s good enough to handle the boys.

The odds are exceptionally short, but with 55kg on her back, she is clearly the one to beat.
