The National Hockey League slate features seven games on Thursday including the following:

  • Rangers (-125) at Sabres - 7 p.m. ET
  • Stars (-220) vs. Blues - 8 p.m. ET
  • Wild (-130) vs. Panthers - 8 p.m. ET

Below, we have our NHL best bets for Oct. 12.

NHL betting picks today: Rangers ML (-125 or better) vs. Sabres

Both of these teams will play their first games of the season in an all-New York battle on Thursday.

The Sabres have a lot of young players that are great candidates for breakout seasons this year, but the Rangers are simply too deep to lose to an exciting but still inexperienced Sabres squad.

The Rangers have the best goalie in the league in Igor Shesterkin and a bevy of offensive talent. If Kappo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere can take that next step to provide the team with some secondary scoring, then this Rangers team is going to be one of the last teams standing come the playoffs.

Look for the Rangers to win this one against the Sabres due to a deeper roster and some more veteran talent. Take the Rangers on the moneyline at close enough to even odds and sit back to enjoy the start of the NHL season.

Oct. 12 NHL best bets: Stars/Blues Over 6.5 (-105 or better)

The Dallas Stars start their season against the St. Louis Blues in a battle between two teams in the Central Division. While the Stars are sizeable favorites for this game, we actually like the over as a better bet than taking a side.

While taking an over 6.5 might be a bit scary, both of these teams have plenty of players who can score. The Stars have a loaded forward group led by winger Jason Robertson who should be among the NHL’s goal leaders this season.

The Stars also have some good veteran talent such as Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn who have been putting pucks in the back of the net for many, many years now.

While the Blues aren’t contending this year, they do have some solid young talent up front like Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas, both forwards who will put up points this year. Look for this game to go over the 6.5 line.
