The Ducks have been less than impressive in the last two seasons, missing the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years for the first time since 2011-2012. But a fresh batch of highly-rated recruits joined Oregon in the offseason, bringing hope for a bounceback campaign.

The most notable is four-star prospect Jackson Shelstad, who is a two-time Oregon Player of the Year and attended the same high school as Payton Pritchard. Kwame Evans and Mookie Cook are a pair of freshmen looking to make an impact in year one.

Oregon fans will have to wait for Shelstad and Cook’s debuts, as both will sit vs. Georgia due to leg injuries.

N’Faly Dante returns for his fifth season in Eugene after leading Oregon in points and rebounds per game. Nick Bittle is also back after a stellar showing in the NIT when Dante watched from the bench with an injury.

Georgia went 16-16 last season in Mike White’s first season as the Bulldogs’ head coach. The Dawgs ended the year with a sour taste in their mouths, losing its final six games.

Oregon is in a better position as a program and should have no issue taking down Georgia. The Ducks have a chance to win the Pac-12 and make a run in March Madness, while Georgia’s +10000 odds to win the SEC Championship are second-worst in the conference.

A player to watch in this matchup is Kario Oquendo, who transferred from Georgia to Oregon in the offseason. Oquendo was the Bulldogs’ leading scorer two years ago and played a slightly diminished role last year when White took over.

Oquendo averaged 14 points per game in the last two seasons and should be a terrific source of offense for the Ducks.

The Dawgs struggled mightily on defense last season, allowing 71 points per game, third-worst in the SEC. Conversely, Oregon ranked fifth in the Pac-12 with 70 points scored per game.

Dante is questionable in the Ducks’ season-opener with a knee injury, but if he can suit up, look for the senior to have a big game after missing the NIT. Dante led Oregon with 13 points and eight rebounds per game and will be a force in his final year with the Ducks.

At +30000 odds, Dante is a longshot to win the Wooden Award, but being listed at all means he’s on oddsmaker’s radars.
