Senators Fall in Philadelphia

The Ottawa Senators lost their fourth straight game when they fell to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, 4-2. That was the first contest of a four-game road trip that began in Pennsylvania but ends with three straight games in California. Ottawa took on Anaheim on Wednesday, but this preview was written prior to the conclusion of that contest. The Senators are 8-17-1 on the road.

Two goals by Philadelphia in the second period of this game proved to be the difference. Ottawa got goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and Thomas Chabot. The Senators had been held three goals or fewer in seven of their last 10 games and are 13th in goals per game (3.27).

Joonas Korpisalo (13-19-3, 3.41, .887) is expected to return from an illness and will likely start on Wednesday. That means it will be Mads Sogaard (1-2-0, 4.58, .857) making his fifth NHL start. He struggled in his first four appearances, but was excellent against Philadelphia, stopping 36 shots. Ottawa is 30th in goals-against average (3.59).

Kings Fall in OT

The Los Angeles Kings lost in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, 2-1. That was the second contest of their five-game homestand that has seen the club split the first two contests. Los Angeles is 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, and they are 12-10-7 at home.

Trevor Moore gave Los Angeles the lead at 10:54 of the first, but Vancouver got a goal in the second and J. T. Miller scored the winner in overtime to give Vancouver the victory. Kevin Fiala was held off the scoresheet, but has eight points over his last five games and leads the club with 55 points. The Kings have eight players with at least 13 goals and are 19th in goals per game (3.07).

Cam Talbot (18-14-6, 2.45, .916) was excellent in this game, stopping 29 shots. He has been splitting time with David Rittich (9-4-3, 2.3 to, .914), so it will likely be Rittich in this game. He has allowed 13 total goals over his last five games. Los Angeles is third in goals-against average (2.61).

Los Angeles narrowly defeated Ottawa the last time these teams met, winning by four goals. However, it would not be surprising to see them blow this game open, so it makes sense to take Los Angeles and give up the 1.5 goals. The Kings have beaten the Senators in five of the last six games, and they won three of those games by more than a goal.

Los Angeles suffered a tough one-goal loss against Vancouver on Tuesday, but have yielded just four goals over their last three games, and had back-to-back five-goal performances before the loss. Ottawa has scored six total goals over their last three games and has given up at least four in their last four, allowing 19 total goals in that span.

Prediction: Take the Los Angeles Kings at -1.5 (+136)

These teams have gone under in six of the last 10 meetings, and eight of the last nine have seen six goals or fewer scored, including six of those contests seeing five goals scored. These have generally been lower-scoring games.

However, Ottawa has been racked lately, giving up 19 total goals over their last four games, and they have given up at least four goals in each of those games. Los Angeles was on a bit of an offensive spurt before losing to Vancouver on Tuesday. Look for them to win, 5-2.

Prediction: Go over 6.5 (-108)
