What are Texas’ odds of making the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff?

Given the widely held belief that the University of Texas is going to be good again in 2024 on the heels of a College Football Playoff berth, it comes as no surprise that at least one sportsbook believes the Longhorns will return to the CFP.

BetOnline on Tuesday released opening lines for Power Four programs to reach the expanded 12-team CFP. Texas is listed at 1/5 odds (-500), the third-best odds out of the 33 Power Four teams listed.

Ohio State (-900) and Georgia (-900) both opened at 1/10 odds, while Oregon, which will play its first season in the Big Ten in 2024, was right behind Texas (-450). BetOnline equated those 1/5 odds for the Longhorns as having an 83.33% chance to qualify for the CFP.

As far CFP qualification and building a resume go, Texas will play in two of the highest-profile games of the season in 2024, Sept. 7 at Michigan and Oct. 19 vs. Georgia.
