Formula 1 2023 Canadian Grand Prix Odds & Picks

Lance Stroll will be aiming to celebrate his homecoming on the podium when he hits the track for Sunday’s running of the Canadian Grand Prix. The Montreal native flirted with a spot among the top three last time out at the Spanish Grand Prix before settling for sixth place and his third top six performance of the season. However, Stroll’s fortunes could hinge on the performance of his Aston Martin teammate and mentor Fernando Alonso, who is looking to bounce back after seeing a run of six straight podium finishes snapped by seventh-place drive in Barcelona.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends ahead of the running of the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday morning, with race time set for 2:00pm ET at Montreal’s Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve.

Odds to Win 2023 Canadian Grand Prix

To the surprise of no one, Max Verstappen returns to Montreal perched as a heavy -330 favorite in the Formula 1 odds to claim a second straight Canadian Grand Prix victory. His Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez trails as a +400 second favorite, while Lewis Hamilton lags as a distant +1400 bet to claim a record eight career victory in Montreal. Fernando Alonso rounds out the top of the odds board at +1800 while Lance Stroll sits well off the pace at +25000.

Verstappen’s Race to Lose

After yet another dominating performance two weeks ago in Barcelona, legitimate challengers to reigning two-time F1 champion Max Verstappen are becoming exceedingly rare. Verstappen was simply unstoppable at the Spanish Grand Prix while leading the way in all three rounds of qualifying, and followed up by claiming both the checkered flag and the fastest lap to pad his lead atop the F1 Drivers Standings to 53 points over second-place Sergio Perez.

So, where is the value to be found in backing Verstappen in the F1 odds. A good place to start is the driver props. In addition to finishing top two in each of the first seven races of the season, Verstappen has also been the top qualifier on four occasions including the past two races. That has given life to his -175 odds to lead the way once again in qualifying and claim the checkered flag. However, the better value can be found in his +115 to record the fastest lap for the fourth time this season while earning the win.

Great Expectations for Stroll’s Homecoming

One of the biggest stories that has gone untold so far during this F1 season centers around the strides that Lance Stroll has made driving alongside new teammate Fernando Alonso. A lightning rod for criticism after finishing better than 10th just twice last season while occasionally strengthening a dubious reputations as a reckless driver, Stroll has enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough in 2023.

The combination of having an upgraded ride in the form of a Mercedes M14 and Alonso’s steady hand have helped the 24-year-old produce his best results since he garnered points in seven straight races back in 2020. That continued two weeks ago at the Spanish Grand Prix, where he started from the No. 5 spot on the grid and managed to maintain a spot among the top six despite struggling with tire management.

Indeed, Alonso has clearly had a calming influence on the former bad boy, who has embraced the team approach this season, and proven his ability to keep pace with chief rivals Mercedes and Red Bull. Much will depend on his performance in qualifying, but with Alonso fully prepared to let him take the lead when he has pace, and with renewed confidence after his fast start to the campaign, Stroll should not be overlooked as a high-value +1800 bet to reach the podium this weekend.

  • Max Verstappen fastest lap and race winner (+115)
  • Lance Stroll podium finish (+1800)
