Momentum points to United win

This glamorous pre-season friendly is part of the Soccer Champions Tour exhibition series and United will want to maintain their momentum after beating Leeds United, Lyon and Arsenal. The side that lost to Wrexham 24 hours before this match was mostly made up mostly academy players.

Real have played just once over the summer, beating AC Milan 3-2 on Monday, so with United’s senior stars already well into their pre-season rhythm and the new Premier League campaign just two and a half weeks away, they should be favourites for this match.

Erik ten Hag is expected to field a very strong line-up, so Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes, who were among those who started the 2-0 win over Arsenal in New Jersey, should all feature, along with summer signing Mason Mount, Casemiro, Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen.

Andre Onana is also expected to make his debut in goal and we predict a winning start for the Cameroon goalkeeper as United make their extra fitness tell.

Goals on the menu in Houston

A big crowd in excess of 65,000 is expected at the NRG Stadium and they should be treated to plenty of goals. United scored five times in the three matches against Leeds, Lyon and Arsenal, while Real netted three against Milan.

Real were virtually at full strength against the Serie A giants and Carlo Ancelotti is likely to name another very familiar line-up in Houston, featuring Toni Kroos, Nacho, Lucas Vazquez and big summer signing Jude Bellingham.

With so much quality on show from both sides, and several first-team players likely to be introduced as second-half substitutes, backing over 3.5 total goals seems the way to go.

United to start well again

Ten Hag’s side were 2-0 up at the break against Arsenal thanks to goals from Fernandes and Sancho and they will look to repeat that positive start against Real, who were slow to get going against Milan and found themselves 2-0 behind at half-time.

Ancelotti’s men roared back after the interval to secure a narrow win, with Federico Valverde scoring twice and Vinicius Junior grabbing the winner, and it would not be a surprise to see another similarly closely fought game, with goals at both ends, between these European giants.
