NASCAR Xfinity Series: Ag-Pro 300 Betting Preview and Prediction

Last weekend on the short track at Martinsville, Joe Gibbs Racing-Toyota’s John Hunter Nemechek landed on Victory Lane for a second time this season, and Xfinity Series regulars finished in the top-five positions.

The Xfinity Series has recently dealt with Grand Prix tracks like Circuit of the Americas and the short tracks of Martinsville and Richmond. However, few tracks on the NASCAR schedule host a “Crown Jewel” event, and even fewer tracks have the cultural cache of Talladega.

We’ll review recent results and driver histories at Talladega in our Ag-Pro 300 betting preview.

Unfortunately, as of publication, there were no NASCAR Xfinity Series odds to make our Ag-Pro 300 betting predictions.

However, if there are Cup Series regulars confirmed for the Xfinity Series race at Talladega, those drivers will undoubtedly be among the betting favorites to win.

NASCAR Xfinity Series: Ag-Pro 300 | 113 Laps (300.58 mi)

Stage 1/2 – 25 laps | Final Stage – 63 laps.

Location of the race: Talladega Superspeedway, Lincoln, Alabama.

Date and Time: Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, 4:00 PM ET.

How to Watch: FS1, NASCAR Live

There is a long history of Xfinity Series racing at Talladega dating to 1992, counting legendary names like Dale Earnhardt and current Cup Series regulars Joey Logano (2012, 2015), Martin Truex Jr. (2004-2007), Kyle Busch (2011), and Tyler Reddick (2019) among the previous winners.

Last season’s Xfinity Series Spring race winner at Talladega was Noah Gragson.

However, only one previous winner at Talladega from the Xfinity Series regulars is confirmed to compete in the Xfinity race at Talladega on Saturday: Jordan Anderson Racing-Chevrolet’s Jeb Burton, who won at Talladega in 2021, racing for Kaulig Racing-Chevrolet.

With his win at Martinsville, John Hunter Nemechek currently leads the Drivers’ Championship NASCAR standings, holding a 21-point advantage over Richard Childress Racing-Chevrolet’s Austin Hill.

Nemechek has four finishes in the top two and seven top-ten finishes this season, only finishing outside the top ten at Circuit of the Americas. Nemechek will be among the betting favorites on NASCAR odds released but note that in only one appearance at Talladega, he finished eighth.

Austin Hill has three wins this season and six top-ten finishes in 2023. Hill is currently in second place and poised to have a strong outing at Talladega, having won on the speedways at Daytona and Las Vegas while winning at the superspeedway at Atlanta. Austin Hill has three appearances at Talladega and has led 127 laps but only has one top-twenty finish.

Hill is a constant threat to win but has struggled since Circuit of the Americas and on the Virginia short-tracks.

Stewart-Haas Racing-Ford’s Riley Herbst is a potential surprise winner. Herbst is currently fourth in the Drivers’ Championship and has six top-ten finishes this season but has finished outside the top twenty in the last two races. However, Herbst has one top-five and two top-ten finishes in six appearances at Talladega.

JR Motorsports-Chevrolet’s Josh Berry might be a little further down the betting favorites but should be among the contenders to win at Talladega. Berry has seven consecutive top-ten finishes this season while scoring one top-five finish and two top-tens in four appearances at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Xfinity Series rookie Sammy Smith might be a long shot which is finding winning form heading into Talladega. Smith won in Phoenix and finished fourth at Circuit of the Americas while finishing second last weekend at Martinsville. However, Smith has finished in the top 20 in every race this season but hasn’t cracked the top-15 in five of the eight races.

We need to turn our Nascar Xfinity Series predictions into a single pick to win.

  • If we are picking one driver to win as our Ag-Pro 300 betting pick, we’re picking Austin Hill to get his second superspeedway race win.
