Newcastle vs Chelsea Odds, Prediction & Betting Tips

Newcastle face Chelsea at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon and we’ve got Anthony Eadson on hand to provide us with his best bets for the game that kicks off at 3pm.

Both of these sides will be looking to get back to winning ways here after failing to come out victorious on their most recent outing before the international break.

Newcastle’s list of absentees runs into double figures for this clash. Harvey Barnes, Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Matt Targett, Dan Burn, Callum Wilson, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson have all been confirmed out of action while there is a question mark over Miguel Almiron.

Chelsea also have as many as eight players missing for the trip to the North East. Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwumeka and Trevoh Chalobah are all on the treatment table. While Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill and Romeo Lavia are doubtful. Christopher Nkunku is nearing a return, but is not in contention to start for the Blues.

Taking a look at the match result odds and the bookmakers make this a rather tight one. Newcastle are the marginal favourites, priced at 31/20 with bet365. The draw is available at 5/2 and an away win for Chelsea is chalked-up at 13/8.

Newcastle vs Chelsea Tips

Enzo Fernandez 1+ Shot on Target

The first selection I’m plumping for on Saturday afternoon is for Enzo Fernandez to record at least one shot on target. No player in the league has let off more shots without scoring than the World Cup winner this season.

In total, Enzo has registered 21 shots across his 11 fixtures, and when it comes to hitting the target he has done in 55% of his top-flight outings this term.

Odds of 17/10 to register a shot on target against Newcastle imply just a 39% chance of success and after seeing Chelsea’s confidence to flood forward in numbers over the last month or so, I’m happy to take a chance at a generous price.

Anthony Gordon to be carded

I’ll also be getting behind Anthony Gordon to be carded. Referee Simon Hooper takes the whistle for this one and he averages a healthy 4.83 yellow cards per game in 2023/24, and has also brandished two red cards which came in Liverpool’s controversial 9-man defeat to Spurs earlier in this campaign.

Only Nicolas Jackson has been shown more yellow cards in the Premier League this season than Anthony Gordon who has collected six in just 11 appearances. Gordon has been on the weights this summer and has a new physicality about his game.

With Newcastle having so many absences for this game Gordon will be expected to lead the charge and I can see him being involved in a good battle with Reece James on that side of the pitch. Several firms have this selection priced around 2/1, so I’ll be taking the best-price offering of 7/2 with Sky Bet.
