The NFC was fairly top-heavy in 2022 with the dominance of the Philadelphia Eagles, followed by the San Francisco 49ers … and not much else. With a blank slate and the season fast approaching, we have picked our favorite bets for NFC teams in the 2023 NFL season.

Here are our favorite NFC odds, long shots and dark horse picks for the 2023 season.

NFL 2023 NFC betting preview: A look at the top teams in the NFC this upcoming NFL season

The Eagles claimed the No. 1 seed in the NFC last season with a 14-3 record. Philly beat out the injury-riddled 49ers in the NFC Championship Game to make it to the Super Bowl, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs by 3 points.

Although there is not as much top-to-bottom competition as there is in the AFC, that just means that there is more room for movement and underdogs to beat the odds.

2023 NFC best bets: San Francisco 49ers to win conference (+400 or better)

The Niners won 10 straight games to close the regular season and may have been the NFC’s Super Bowl representative had they had a quarterback capable of throwing a pass in the championship game.

They may have to start Sam Darnold early in the year, but they were able to rip off the 10-game win streak with a rookie and last pick in the draft under center.

Quarterback situation aside, the 49ers are not only vastly experienced, but they also have a first-team All-Pro in every position group, added a star defensive tackle named Javon Hargrave in free agency, and have a genius head coach in Kyle Shanahan on the sideline.

The Eagles have a higher floor because of the QB, but the Niners have a higher ceiling, which is why they are our favorite pick.

NFC sleeper pick: Seattle Seahawks (+1300 or better)

The list of teams that have legitimate chances to win the NFC is a short one, and the Seahawks are one of the few on the list.

They were top 10 in scoring thanks to Comeback Player of the Year Geno Smith and will be even better thanks to first-round draft pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba, plus they totally revamped their defense.

Former Seahawks captain Bobby Wagner returned after a detour to the Los Angeles Rams, and they drafted Devon Witherspoon to go opposite Tariq Woolen.

Seattle might be a better regular-season than postseason prospect because of their inexperience and their inferiority to the Eagles and Niners in the trenches, but they still have an extremely high ceiling.

2023 NFC long shot picks: Detroit Lions (+900 or better)

The Lions are fourth in odds to win the conference, the favorite to win the NFC North (+155) and minus-money to make the playoffs (-170) — and we are prepared to fade them on all counts.

The Lions had a top-five scoring offense last year and drastically exceeded expectations on that side of the ball, but their defense surrendered the most yards and fifth-most points in the league and did not get decidedly better over the offseason.

The Motor City faithful also has a long history of disappointing and will face the pressure of meeting expectations for the first time in a decade, a task that we believe their inexperience will prevent them from doing.
