Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres Prediction 5-25-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals meet Thursday in MLB action from Nationals Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Padres took a three-run win in the opener, then on Wednesday Washington evened it up with a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego Padres

The Padres scored three runs in the seventh inning during the Tuesday opener of this set, eventually powering out a 7-4 win. On Wednesday San Diego was down 4-0 after two innings and ultimately couldn’t come back in a 5-3 loss. Starter Ryan Weathers finished with 6.0 innings, four earned, seven hits and two walks.

For the starter job on Thursday it’ll be Blake Snell. Over his nine starts this year Snell has a 1-6 record with a 5.40 ERA and 48 Ks in 45.0 innings. Snell is 58-52 in his career with a 3.52 ERA in 168 starts.

Washington Nationals

Over on the Nationals’ side, they were out-hit 12-9 in the Tuesday opener but had a good fifth inning with three runs. On Wednesday Washington scored four in the second inning on the way to nine team hits. Trevor Williams lasted 5.2 innings in the start with three earned on three hits and three walks.

Starter for the Nats on Thursday will be Jake Irvin. In four starts this year (the first four of his career), Irvin is 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA and 15 Ks in 18.0 innings.

The Padres are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 3-14 in their last 17 Thursday games. The under is 16-5 in San Diego’s last 21 in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Nationals are 5-2 in the last seven in game three of a series and 42-91 in their last 133 at home. Washington is 13-38 in the last 51 Thursday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay Padres here. The line's way too thick to mess with, though. Snell needs a good bounce-back outing as well. In his last start against Boston, Snell put up six earned on five hits and two walks in 4.0 innings for a loss. He’d been pitching better since then, however. Snell had 12.0 innings with four earned combined over his previous pair. On Wednesday San Diego calmed down greatly after the second inning, but they’re going to need a better supporting effort for Snell in this one. I think they’ll get it.
