Toronto Blue Jays vs San Diego Padres Prediction 7-20-23 MLB Picks

The San Diego Padres and the Toronto Blue Jays meet Thursday in MLB action from Rogers Centre. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Padres took a blowout win in the opener, then on Wednesday in game two San Diego kept it up with a shutout victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Diego Padres

The Padres posted nine team hits in the opener of this set, with three RBI and three runs from Juan Soto in a 9-1 blowout win. On Wednesday San Diego’s Manny Machado finished with two RBI in a 2-0 victory. Kim Ha-seong and Fernando Tatis each had two hits as well.

For the starter job in the Thursday game the Padres are going with Blake Snell. In his 19 starts so far this year Snell is 6-7 with a 2.71 ERA and 139 Ks in 103.0 innings. Snell has a career record of 63-53 with a 3.33 ERA in 178 starts total.

Toronto Blue Jays

Over on the Blue Jays’ side, they got two hits from Bo Bichette and an RBI from Matt Chapman Tuesday but overall it was a quiet evening offensively. On Wednesday Toronto got multiple hits from only Bichette (2-for-3), while Brandon Belt finished 1-for-3 with a walk.

Chris Bassitt will be the starter for the Jays on Thursday. Over his 20 starts this year Bassitt is 9-5 with a 4.12 ERA and 107 Ks in 115.2 innings.

San Diego is 45-50 against the money line this year and 20-27 against the money line in road games. The Padres are 27-33 against the money line in road games this year. Snell is 5-3 versus Toronto over his career and Bassitt is 0-3 against the Jays.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stay with the Padres here. Snell is rolling along over his last three starts with zero earned over 16.0 innings total. He’s 2-0 in that time. As for Bassitt, he’s given up eight earned over his last 16.0 innings. On Wednesday San Diego really only had one big inning offensively but Yu Darvish and the pen (3.0 innings; two hits; 3 Ks) held things together very well. The Padres may need to score a couple more in the finale, but considering San Diego has hit four or more runs in six of their last seven that shouldn’t be too difficult.
