Burnley face up to home truths

Burnley’s wretched home record – a win and nine defeats in 10 league matches at Turf Moor this season – makes them hard to fancy, even against a side only one place above them in the table.

A home win would take Vincent Kompany’s side to within a point of Luton, but the visitors have a great incentive of their own as a win would lift them out of the bottom three.

Both sides were beaten 3-2 in their most recent Premier League outings, Burnley going down at Aston Villa and Luton losing to Chelsea at Kenilworth Road.

Burnley did win the reverse fixture 2-1 in October but Luton have made encouraging strides since and have won three of their previous seven top-flight matches.

They have scored in all of those games too – 13 goals in total – and can outgun a home side who have netted just 10 times at home all season, drawing a blank in five of those games. As insurance, we’re placing this bet in the draw no bet market.

Burnley vs Luton tip 1: Luton – draw no bet @ 7/4 with Sky Bet

Berge a big price to be booked

Sander Berge returns from suspension for this basement battle and we’re backing the Burnley midfielder to get into hot water almost immediately.

Berge sat out the 1-0 defeat at Spurs in the FA Cup third round last weekend after being sent off for two yellow cards in the previous game at Aston Villa.

The Norwegian has now picked up five yellows and a red this term, hardly a surprise for a man who tops Burnley’s fouls chart with 23 committed.

He has made the third-highest number of tackles in his team, with 34, and is 9/2 to receive a card, which is a fair price given how much is at stake in this match.

Burnley vs Luton tip 2: Sander Berge to be carded @ 9/2 with Sky Bet

Bank with Barkley in bet builder

Ross Barkley is proving an influential figure in Luton’s midfield with his experience, leadership and willingness to have a crack at goal.

The former Everton and Chelsea midfielder has taken 31 shots this season – only Carlton Morris has had more for the Hatters. We’re backing Barkley to have two or more shots as the first of three legs in our BuildABet.

The second is for Burnley to have five or more corners. They average 6.7 corners at home – which is pretty impressive given that six of their 10 opponents at Turf Moor this season are currently in the top eight – while Luton give up 6.4 away from home on average.

Our third leg is for under 3.5 goals, since neither side is free-scoring and the tension will be palpable.

Burnley vs Luton tip 3: Bet builder: Ross Barkley 2+ shots, Burnley 5+ corners and under 3.5 goals @ 6/4 with Sky Bet
