Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers prediction and odds for Wednesday, Aug. 30 (Can’t fade L.A.)
The Los Angeles Dodgers have taken the first two games of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, causing a major shift in the NL playoff race.
Arizona has now dropped to third in the NL West, falling out of a wild card spot in the National League in the process. The D-Backs had been on a nice run, but they dropped Monday’s game by a score of 7-4 before losing 9-1 on Tuesday night.
Now, the team is hoping to salvage one game in this series, but can it do so against the red-hot Dodgers?
Two young right-handers are facing off in this game, which could give Arizona a chance.

Ryan Pepiot is making just his third appearance in the 2023 season for the Dodgers, but he’s looked good so far, posting a 2.00 ERA and 2.93 Fielding Independent Pitching across nine innings of work.
Pepiot has allowed just six hits and struck out 11 batters in his two outings, and I don’t mind trusting him – and this Dodgers offense – on Wednesday.
Los Angeles knocked around Merrill Kelly, who came into Tuesday’s game with a sub.-3.00 ERA, on Tuesday night, which is a bad sign for Pfaadt on the road.
The D-Backs rookie has struggled at times in 2023, but he has been better in August. In five starts, Pfaadt has a 3.03 ERA and 3.03 FIP. However, he did give up four runs and six hits to the Dodgers in just 4.2 innings of work this month, by far his worst of the five starts he’s had.
With that in mind, I’m going to take the Dodgers to complete the sweep, as the team is one of the top offenses in baseball and could have an advantage on the mound as well.
