2023 Tour Championship picks, odds, field: Surprising PGA predictions, bets by model that nailed 10 majors

The 2023 FedEx Cup Playoffs conclude this week in Atlanta with the 2023 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. Golfers in the Tour Championship 2023 field will begin the tournament with starting strokes based on their FedEx Cup ranking. Scottie Scheffler sits atop the leaderboard at 10-under par, and he is the +140 favorite (risk $100 to win $140) in the 2023 Tour Championship odds. Viktor Hovland (+500) is two strokes off the lead, Rory McIlroy (+330) is three strokes back and Jon Rahm (+800) is four strokes behind Scheffler.

McIlroy is the defending champion and a three-time winner of this event. He has gained at least two strokes over the field in 12 of his last 20 rounds in Atlanta, but should you include him in your 2023 Tour Championship bets? Before locking in your 2023 Tour Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure's best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 Tour Championship field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2023 Tour Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Tour Championship 2023: Lucas Glover, who is in fifth place in the starting strokes format at 5-under par, stumbles this week and doesn't even crack the top 10. Glover has been one of the sleepers on the PGA Tour over the past few weeks, winning two tournaments to get to fifth place in the FedEx Cup standings. He won back-to-back titles at the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx St. Jude Championship earlier this month.

However, Glover cooled off last week, finishing outside the top 20 at the BMW Championship when he shot 4-under par. He has missed the cut 11 times this season, including at the 3M Open at the end of July. Glover has not cracked the top 10 at a major championship since 2009, and the model does not expect him to contend at the Tour Championship this weekend.

Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood, a 45-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Fleetwood has been a contender in more than half of the tournaments that he has played in this season, posting 12 top-25 finishes in 20 events.

He has finished in the top 25 in four straight tournaments and six of his last seven, including a third-place finish at the FedEx St. Jude Championship two weeks ago. Fleetwood finished T-5 at the U.S. Open and T-10 at the Open Championship, while also posting a T-6 finish at the Scottish Open in between those majors. The 32-year-old is one of the hottest golfers in the world, and the model expects his success to continue this weekend. See who else to pick here.

How to make 2023 Tour Championship picks

The model is also targeting two other golfers with odds of 40-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here.
