For the second straight game, the Tigers send a pitcher to the mound for his first start after a long layoff from an injury. On Tuesday, Tarik Skubal was brilliant, spinning four no-hit innings in his 2023 debut. On Wednesday, Eduardo Rodriguez returns to the hill following a five-week absence due to a finger ailment.
Rodriguez has easily been the most effective pitcher for the Tigers in 2023, so much so that his name is bandied about as a bargaining chip for the upcoming trade deadline. But whether he goes or stays, Rodriguez has a few more starts to show what he can do in the Old English D. The A’s are a perfect test for ERod as he returns to the team.
On the other side, Waldichuk is coming off two relief appearances to make his first start since June 20. But even then, Waldichuk was used as an “opener,” going only 1 ⅔ innings. That’s why bettors can be optimistic for the Tigers to have a chance to score early in this contest.
Jake Rogers and Spencer Torkelson are the two hottest batters in the Detroit lineup. Torkelson has four homers in his last 10 games, and Rogers has hit .368 with a pair of homers in his last seven games.
The Ancient Tiger, Miguel Cabrera, is hitting .333 in the last five games, which spans the last week and a half. At this point of his career, Miggy cannot be the subject of a bet for power, but he can still make contact and find a hole for a base hit.
