Tigers vs Red Sox: Odds, picks and predictions 8/13/23

The Detroit Tigers are on the verge of winning their second straight series against a potential playoff team. Last week, the Tigers took three of four from the Twins. With a victory on Sunday, Detroit can capture two of three on the road against the Boston Red Sox.

Even if Detroit can’t quite climb into the divisional race in the AL Central, they can still be fun to bet on. Check out the best MLB sportsbooks for any Tigers game odds or future odds you might be interested in betting on.

Eduardo Rodriguez (8-5, 2.75 ERA, 101 K in 101.1 IP) vs Kutter Crawford (5-6, 3.80 ERA, 87 K in 85.1 IP)

Every five games there’s an excellent reason to bet on the Tigers: Rodriguez has been one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2023. The Red Sox are very familiar: ERod pitched in the Boston organization for eight years. In his most recent starts, the lefthander has been spinning his slider at near-elite levels, which would be a nice weapon for the finale of this three-gamer at Fenway.

The Sox seem intent on using Crawford as a starter, when he might be best suited out of the bullpen. He essentially has two MLB pitches, both of them fastballs. He’s tiring as the season wears on, which may be an indication that the team has asked too much from the third-year righty. In his most recent start, Crawford put too many runners on the bases and allowed three runs and a homer in 3 ⅓. If Detroit sits on his four-seamer and cutter, it could be a happy day for Tigers fans.

  • Total Runs has gone UNDER in 10 the last 14 games between the Tigers and Red Sox.
  • The Red Sox are 5-1 Against The Spread in their last six games vs. Detroit.
  • The loss on Saturday snapped a four-game winning streak for the Sox at home.
  • A moneyline wager on Detroit would have paid $174 from FanDuel for Saturday’s game.
  • Detroit is 7-1 Against The Spread (runline) in its last eight games on the road.

Tigers To Win, Moneyline (+116 from FanDuel MI Sports Betting app)

What do you get from a pitcher who refuses a trade and stays with your team? You get an ace. Rodriguez is most assuredly that: he ranks among AL leaders in ERA, strikeouts, and quality starts. Detroit has won four of the last five games that ERod has started. The durable lefty has pitched into the sixth inning or later in three of his last four outings. Rodriguez on the mound gives the TIgers a strong edge on Sunday, and the southpaw will also be motivated to perform well against his former team. A winning $50 bet on Detroit and the moneyline would deliver $58, plus the stake.

Today we move away from the player props and select three bets for our same-game parlay, all game-level. We will give away 1.5 runs on Detroit, because we think Eduardo Rodriguez will stamp down the Sox lineup. We need the Tigers to lead after five innings, and no score in the first inning.

The odds on this FanDuel SGP are +586, which means a $100 wager could win you $586.

  • Tigers -1.5 Alternate Run Lines
  • Tigers Win First 5 Innings
  • First Inning Correct Score, 0-0
