Derby trail: Patriot Spirit leads 6 prospects on Saturday tab

Patriot Spirit leads a group of six from Kentucky Derby futures who worked Saturday morning. Winner of the Inaugural Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs as the odds-on favorite on Dec. 2, Patriot Spirit drilled Saturday for the first since that first career stakes victory. The son of Constitution worked an easy six furlongs in 1:14.80, the only breeze at the distance.

Trained by Michael Campbell, Patriot Spirit has two wins in four starts. Both of those victories have come at one turn on dirt. He currently sits at a 200-1 best price in Las Vegas futures books.

These six horses in Las Vegas futures for the Kentucky Derby worked across the country on Saturday morning:

El Dinero (El Deal), worked five furlongs in 1:06.8 at Delta Downs on Saturday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Delta Downs. In his last start he placed second in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile going six furlongs on the main track at Fair Grounds on Dec. 9 for trainer Patrick Devereux Jr.

J Bird Time (Not This Time), worked five furlongs in 1:02.4 at Churchill Downs on Saturday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start he won a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic at Turfway Park on Dec. 15 for trainer Dale Romans.

Patriot Spirit (Constitution), worked six furlongs in 1:14.8 at Tampa Bay Downs on Saturday morning. It was the only work at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Inaugural going six furlongs on the main track at Tampa Bay Downs on Dec. 2 for trainer Michael Campbell.

Regalo (Maximus Mischief), worked five furlongs in 1:02.8 at Laurel Park on Saturday morning. It was the eighth fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Laurel Park. In his last start he won an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Laurel Park on Dec. 9 for trainer Brittany Russell.

Roar Ready (Do the Roar), worked four furlongs in 48.7 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Saturday morning. It was the second fastest of 17 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won a maiden race going seven furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Nov. 11 for trainer Ruben Sierra.

Yo Yo Candy (Danzing Candy), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Sanford), worked four furlongs in 52.9 seconds at Parx Racing on Saturday morning. It was the 48th fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fifth in the Nashua going one mile on the main track at Aqueduct on Nov. 5 for trainer Daniel Velazquez.
