Kentucky Derby workout report: 6 colts in futures drill Thursday

Six horses listed in Nevada futures for Kentucky Derby 2024 had timed workouts Thursday morning.

Among them were Committee of One, a Steve Asmussen trainee who had his first work since finishing seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in his last start. Before that, the Mendelssohn colt won the Indian Summer at Keeneland by a nose for his first career victory.

Here are details of Thursday's works by Derby hopefuls.

Big Effect (The Big Beast), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Thursday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 32 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start he placed third in the Juvenile Sprint going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Nov. 11 for trainer Edward Plesa Jr.

Bonne Chance (Good Samaritan), worked four furlongs in 49.3 seconds at Belmont Park on Thursday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 73 works at the distance. His previous work was 13 days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed seventh in the Notebook going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Nov. 18 for trainer Bruce Levine.

Committee of One (Mendelssohn), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Fair Grounds on Thursday morning. It was the 30th fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed seventh in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint going five furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Raging Fury (Ami's Flatter), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Thursday morning. It was the 14th fastest of 32 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic at Gulfstream Park on Nov. 3 for trainer Edward Plesa Jr.

Sea Streak (Sea Wizard), worked four furlongs in 47.9 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Thursday morning. It was the third fastest of 32 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in an allowance race going one mile on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 9 for trainer Eddie Owens Jr.
