Saturday works: Locked gets back to work after BC Juvenile

Locked, who checked in third as the favorite in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile behind stablemate Fierceness on Nov. 3 at Santa Anita, recorded his first timed workout since the race on Saturday at Turfway Park. 

The son of Gun Runner, who won his first two starts, including the Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland on Oct. 7, worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds, the 40th fastest of 125 works at the distance.

Locked was installed as the second favorite this week in Caesars Sportsbook in Nevada's reopened Kentucky Derby 2024 futures pool at 30-1, behind only Fierceness at 15-1. 

Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher has not yet identified a target for Locked's return to the races. 

Locked was one of 34 graded-stakes winners recording timed workouts on Saturday across the U.S. and Canada. Here is the full list:

This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed second in the Autumn Miss (G3) going one mile on the turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 5 for trainer Leonard Powell.

Atone (Into Mischief), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational), worked four furlongs in 49.5 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Saturday morning. It was the 40th fastest of 82 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Training. In his last start he placed eighth in the Turf Mile (G1) going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 7 for trainer Mike Maker.

Eda (Munnings), a Grade 1 winner (2021 Starlet), worked four furlongs in 48.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Saturday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 29 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed seventh in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 4 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Henley's Joy (Kitten's Joy), a Grade 1 winner (2019 Belmont Derby Invitational), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Churchill Training on Saturday morning. It was the fastest of 16 works at the distance. His previous work was 16 days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Training.
