Kentucky Derby 2024: Muth, Urban Legend post bullet works

Muth, winner of the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes and most recently second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, worked a bullet Saturday morning at Santa Anita. The Bob Baffert trainee covered five furlongs in 1:00.2, the joint fastest of 20 horses to cover the distance. It was Muth's fourth drill since the Breeders' Cup. The son of Good Magic, 40-1 in Las Vegas futures for the Kentucky Derby, has yet to finish out of the exacta in four starts.

Another horse in the Kentucky Derby futures earned the other five-furlong bullet at Santa Anita: Urban Legend. A $1.3 million son of Into Mischief, Urban Legend finished second on debut. However, he was seventh in his most recent start in a Nov. 25 maiden special weight at Del Mar. Despite being the odds-on favorite that day, he proved no match for Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) entrant Moonlit Sonata. Off that effort, he is 150-1 in Las Vegas futures for the run for the roses.
