Kentucky Derby tab: Stronghold drills for Sunland Park Derby

Stronghold and Informed Patriot worked Monday ahead of their Sunday starts in the Grade 3 Sunland Park Derby, which offers 20-10-6-4-2 Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the top five eligible finishers.

Stronghold, most recently second in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) in December, worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Santa Anita for trainer Phil D'Amato.

Informed Patriot, trained by Steve Asmussen, was third last out in the Smarty Jones. He breezed four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Fair Grounds.

Stronghold and Informed Patriot were two of seven horses in Nevada futures for Kentucky Derby 2024 with published works Monday.

Give Me a Reason (Justify) worked five furlongs in 1:02.2 at Oaklawn on Monday morning. It was the second fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he placed fifth in a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Dec. 17 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Ignite the Light (Into Mischief) worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Monday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 119 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed fourth in a maiden race going seven furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Dec. 2 for trainer Rick Dutrow.

Informed Patriot (Hard Spun) worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Fair Grounds on Monday morning. It was the fourth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed third in the Smarty Jones going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Jan. 1 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Iridescent (City of Light) worked three furlongs in 37.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Monday morning. It was the second fastest of 12 works at the distance. His previous work was four days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed second in the Jimmy Winkfield going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Jan. 27 for trainer David Jacobson.

Resilience (Into Mischief) worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Payson Park on Monday morning. It was the third fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Payson Park. In his last start he won a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 1 for trainer Bill Mott.

Stronghold (Ghostzapper) worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Santa Anita on Monday morning. It was the 21st fastest of 68 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed second in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Los Alamitos on Dec. 16 for trainer Phil D'Amato.
