Kentucky Derby workout report: 3 colts in futures drill Tuesday

Two colts who have picked up Kentucky Derby qualifying points worked Tuesday morning.

Drum Roll Please, who was third last out in the Grade 2 Remsen to earn three Derby points, went four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Aqueduct for trainer Brad Cox. He broke his maiden at Aqueduct on second try but is 0-for-3 otherwise.

Gold Sweep earned two points with a fourth-place finish in the Champagne (G1). Trained by Steve Asmussen, he won the listed Tremont Stakes in June for his only win in five starts. The Speightstown colt went four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday.

Three horses in the futures books had published works Tuesday.

Drum Roll Please (Hard Spun), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the third fastest of eight works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the Remsen (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Aqueduct on Dec. 2 for trainer Brad Cox.

Gold Sweep (Speightstown), worked four furlongs in 51.6 seconds at Fair Grounds on Tuesday morning. It was the eigth fastest of 15 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed fourth in the Champagne (G1) going one mile on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 7 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Shady Appeal (Twice the Appeal), worked three furlongs in 36.8 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the second fastest of three works at the distance. His previous work was 27 days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed sixth in the Golden State Juvenile going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Jeff Bonde.
