Tigers vs. Reds: Odds, betting picks & predictions 9/12/23

FanDuel sportsbook is one of the leading baseball betting platforms in the country, and right now they are giving new customers $200 in Bonus Bets AND $100 off a subscription to NFL Sunday Ticket when you place a $5 bet.

The Detroit Tigers are as good a team to bet that $5 on as any: since July 1, they have a 31-31 record. While .500 isn’t playoff-worthy, it indicates the Tigers are growing into a competitive team. In fact, only their dismal record in June (9-18) has kept Detroit from nipping at the heels of the division-leading Twins.

MLB odds

We’ve compared odds from around the industry and given you the best value from the top sportsbooks in Michigan

Joey Wentz (2-11, 6.65 ERA, 83 K in 90.2 IP) vs. Brandon Williamson (4-4, 4.20 ERA, 87 K per 98.2 IP)

The Tigers are in a tight spot, with Alex Faedo having pitched in relief between his last start, otherwise his turn would be up. They instead call on Wentz, who hasn’t started a game since August 18, and was in Toledo for a stretch. The lefty has struggled mightily against right-handed hitters (.295 batting average against with a 907 OPS), which gives the Tigers worries, and should give any MLB bettor considering laying money on Detroit pause.

Brandon Williamson is a rookie but has displayed his workmanship and durability this season for the Reds. He is facing the Detroit lineup for the first time, which could prove difficult for the Tigers batters. He mixes in five pitches, but the most effective for the southpaw is his cut fastball, which moves in on right-handed batters and dives away from lefties.

Detroit +1.5, -154 from FanDuel MI Sportsbook

Take the 1.5 runs and bet the home team, even with Wentz on the bump. The Tigers are getting offensive production from several bats mid-order, which bodes well against the lefty (Torkelson and Ibañez especially).

We used the parlay builder from FanDuel sportsbook to make this SGP for the DET/CIN game for Tuesday night in Detroit. Odds for this 5-leg parlay are +1650.

  • Andy Ibañez To Record a Hit
  • Spencer Torkelson To Record a Hit
  • Spencer Torkelson To Record an RBI
  • Spencer Steer To Record An RBI
  • Brandon Williamson To Record 5+ Strikeouts

The Tigers are 6-3 in September, and while many experts thought the team might finish in the AL Central cellar, that’s not going to happen. Instead, as manager A.J. Hinch said Sunday, this team may be better than their record indicates. With momentum swinging upward for the Tigs as the season reaches a conclusion, it’s going to be fun to watch young players settling in this month.

The Reds are currently 1.5 games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks for a postseason berth. Every series the rest of the way is crucial for the Reds, who will play on the road for 11 of their 17 remaining games. The Reds are an exciting team, unlike any team the Tigers compete with in the AL. The Reds lead baseball in stolen bases, and have eight players with 10+ steals. They also have 10 batters with at least 10 homers. This is an offense that can do a lot, whether it’s hitting the ball into the gap, stealing bags, or sending the baseball over the fence.
